Introduction to Medical Leadership and Management
“The doctor’s frequent
role as head of the healthcare team and commander of considerable clinical
resource requires that greater attention is paid to management and leadership
skills regardless of specialism. An acknowledgement of the leadership role of
medicine is increasingly evident.”

Jointly developed
by The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and the NHS Institute for Innovation
and Improvement,
the Medical Leadership
Competency Framework (MLCF) was implemented in 2008 to facilitate greater
participation by doctors in the planning, delivery
and transformation of health services. It is with the MLCF in mind that we
offer our Medical Management Course for Doctors.
Offering an
introduction to leadership and management principles and techniques to junior
doctors (up to ST3 level), our goal is to first help you realise the importance
of leadership and management skills within a multidisciplinary environment
before coaching you on how to improve your personal effectiveness within your
current role.
Features of our CPD
accredited course include:
·
Understand and implement the
principles of leadership and management approaches specifically applicable
to a clinical environment
·
Improving your personal
effectiveness with a multidisciplinary team – coordinating team members and
delegating tasks
·
Gain insight into the NHS
hierarchy and current management and political issues
·
Learn how to lead and
motivate others using the appropriate leadership style for each person and
situation
·
Grow in confidence as a medical
manager and leader
·
Realise the value of being able
to give and take feedback in a constructive and effective manner
At the end of the course each delegate will also be
able to:
·
Keep a record of their learning
experiences so that learning points can be reflected upon and referred to after
the course
·
Have the opportunity to prepare a
detailed Action Plan which sets SMART objectives, activities with timescales,
together with the Record of Learning and Action Plan, a method of incorporating
what you have learnt into your everyday practice
