Revalidation Appraisal Course
The GMC is currently changing the way that doctors
in the UK are licensed to practice medicine. The introduction of revalidation
means that doctors will be required to renew their license to practice every
five years to give patients the assurance that
licensed doctors are up-to-date and fit to practice. A key part of the
revalidation process will be career appraisals, which you will be expected to
have undergone once every year.
The medical appraisal process is based on the GMC's document Good Medical Practice,
which outlines the core principles of good medical practice, and standards of
competence, care and conduct expected of doctors in all aspects of their
professional work:
·
Good clinical care
·
Maintaining good medical practice
·
Teaching and training
·
Relationships with patients
·
Working with colleagues
·
Probity
·
Health
Our aim is to develop the essential techniques,
skills, knowledge and confidence required for doctors to conduct effective
appraisal interviews. Dealing with appraisals is a skill in itself, which many
doctors may not have had a chance to develop before they are asked to perform
one.
Our CPD accredited one-day programme will help to
tackle this issue and organise a strategy which delegates can use immediately
within their working lives. Anyone who has responsibility for reviewing the
performance of their staff will find this day invaluable.
The participants of our Medical Career Appraisal
Skills course will:
·
Be able to describe how the
appraisal interview relates to performance management, which will enable the
delegates to make practical, work-based links
·
Be able to state the key elements
for preparing to appraise colleagues and the importance of clear focus
·
Know to ensure that elements
which are vital to the success of the appraisal having been considered
·
Explore and understand how
important key skills and behaviours are to give positive outcomes for the
person being appraised, and how to ensure they have an enjoyable experience
·
Understand the importance of
feedback as a technique within the medical appraisal process
·
Understand how to deal with
different personalities in a constructive and positive manner, supplementing
the positive nature of the appraisal
Furthermore, at the end of our course you will be
able to:
·
Keep a record of your learning
experiences so that learning points can be reflected upon and referred to after
the course
·
Have the opportunity to prepare a
detailed Action Plan which sets SMART objectives, activities with timescales,
together with the Record of Learning and Action Plan, a method of incorporating
what you have learnt into your everyday practice
