Developing Leadership Skills for Doctors
“A community is like a ship; everyone ought
to be prepared to take the helm.” Henrik Ibsen
While the main focus of
a doctor’s commitment is their professional practice, all doctors hold a clear responsibility
to directly contribute to the effective running of the hospital or trust in
which they work, and to its future direction. As such, the General Medical
Council and NHS have stated that the development of leadership competencies for
doctors needs to be addressed as an indispensable part of their training and
learning.
Jointly developed by The Academy of Medical
Royal Colleges and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, t
he Medical Leadership Competency Framework
(MLCF) is intended as a guideline and check post for the development of these
leadership skills, and to enable a doctor in the NHS to be a:
·
Practitioner
·
Partner
·
Leader
Following the principles set out in the MLCF,
our Leadership and Management Course for Middle Grade Doctors has been designed by NHS
professionals to introduce you to leadership strategies and techniques that you
can implement to not only improve your own performance, but that of your team
and trust.
Held over two days and holding full CPD / CME
accreditation (12 points), features of the course include:
·
Five different levels
of leaderships
·
Characteristics of an
influential person and the behaviours to use when influencing others

formation and setting out the role and responsibilities of each member
·

·

At the end of the

learning experiences so that learning points can be reflected upon and referred
