Choosing A Medical School Guide

Choosing a Medical School can be a long and difficult process. Many applicants struggle to find enough suitable information to make an informed decision and so it is important that you research your options thoroughly and consider carefully the many factors that differ between each of the 33 UK Medical Schools.

“Choosing a Medical School: An Essential Guide to UK Medical Schools” has been written by medical students, for medical students, and covers everything you need to know to enable you to select the Medical Schools best suited to you.

Designed to help school leavers, graduates and mature individuals applying to Medical School, our Medical School guide provides:

·         An overview of what to expect from life at Medical School, including perspectives from domestic and international students

·         Up-to-date information on course structure, teaching methods, entrance requirements and other key elements to consider when choosing a Medical School, including a quick comparison table for each

·         Specific sections focusing on pre-clinical and clinical education, including summaries of teaching hospitals

·         Information on what each Medical School and city offers outside of your course: safety, nightlife, cost of living, transport, places to go and things to do, etc.

·         Each Medical School includes a student’s view on pre-clinical and clinical training, as well as social opportunities

Our Medical School guide, in contrast to others available, not only focuses upon what you can expect from the courses themselves, but what opportunities each UK Medical School can afford you in preparation for your application to the Foundation Programme. Moreover, as prospective medical students the authors believe that the best advice that can be given you is from those currently enrolled in each Medical School.

With forewords by Professor Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer for England, and Professor Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians, our Medical School Guide is an indispensable companion for those choosing a Medical School.

UK Medical School Guide Testimonials

'Written by students for 'would be' students, this book is packed full of useful facts which need to be considered before choosing to spend at least five years at any medical school. As well as detailed information on the medical school and the structure of the particular course, a good feel for what it is like to study in the particular location is provided by a number of current or recent students. This makes a great starting point before exploring web sites and visiting med schools.'
